Reindeer live above the Arctic Circle, in a land sometimes called "The Land of the Midnight Sun". It is very cold there. See if you can find this region on a globe. Look for Siberia, northern Norway, Finland and Sweden.

Unlike other types of deer, both male and female reindeer have antlers. The antlers are shed each year and then regrow.

Reindeer have very thick fur that keeps them insulated from the cold and even helps them float when they are in water.

The reindeer in these photos live at Lapland Lake Nordic Center in the Adirondack Mountains of New York State.

You can draw a reindeer using your very own hands. Turn to page 76 of Winter Day Play to learn more about reindeer and this easy drawing activity.
